Any hope for blindness from retinal detachment caused by poorly controlled diabetes mellitus?

I have heard that they put the end of the nerves back together sometimes in hope that they will just reattach. Depends upon if it is done within a very short period after detachment and with diabetes, it is more of a hit and miss chance. All that seems to be possible is to move the nerve ends back together and hope for reattachment. They can't do more than that here as it is just too dangerous an area to be fooling around.
