Becoming fluent in Spanish?

Actually speaking the language is the best way to fluency, otherwise you are just fluent at reading and writing. Fluency requires a larger vocabulary because you will need to know what the person you are speaking with is saying and yes, conjugations are the meat and potatoes of Spanish. I invested in a book titled 500 Spanish Verbs Fully Conjugated and it is worth its weight in gold. No, you won't memorize all 500, that will take time but for the normal -ar, -er and -ir verbs it will help a lot and if nothing else, simply say the base verb or the present tense and say ayer for yesterday or maana for tomorrow ie, yo voy ayer a cine (which a listener would understand to mean that you went to the movies yesterday. Try livemocha.com where you will be able to interact with native speakers of the language, both speaking and in text.
